The various responses to Romney’s controversial recorded comments are a picture of folks thinking things are one way when they are really another. Romney was pointing out that Obama’s supporters are dependent on government when the very people he was talking to are the ones who are the most dependent on government of any group in the country.
Take away welfare for the rich and the net income and living standard of Romney’s affluent supporters would drop considerably. Stop providing welfare for the rich and the real income of the average American will rise.
Americans as a rule have no idea as to who is actually dependent on government. The poor are a mess, no doubt, but it is the rich who are most dependent on government.
If big government ever becomes a disadvantage to the rich, government will start shrinking immediately.
