The Pope and The Devil

I am not sure if there is a difference in this case. Either Pope Francis does not know what capitalism is or he is doing the Devils work. For the Pope’s information and also anyone else who doesn’t know. the secular world operates in line with the principles of dominance and subservience. Of course, Jesus understood these things. The Pope needs to take the time to learn.

Evil as I understand it is the state of being completely shut off from the truth. Those who are evil do not know they are evil. Why? For an evil person to know he is evil is a contradiction. Being partly shut off from the truth amounts to being partly evil.

We don’t have a capitalist system. Poverty and misery as occur in economic settings are produced by the very system he most appreciates. The system we have in the United States is much closer to what Adolph Hitler put together in Germany during the 1930s. There is a huge difference between a fascist system and a capitalist economy. When Pope Francis attacks capitalism, he is helping to destroy the only hope the poor have ever had and the only hope they have today.

All economic systems are  rooted in self interest. How people go about getting what they want is how an economy is defined.  In a socialist system, self interest works against efficiency. With socialism, it is in ones self interest to live off the efforts of others. Little gets produced and suffering increases. As in fascism, money and wealth go to the top. In both systems political power determines economic outcomes. Whoever controls government lives off the efforts of others. The goals of socialism may sound great, but but human nature prevents any of those goals from being achieved. A fascist system works a little different. By politics, an upper class emerges. By controlling government, the rich manage to live above the law. Government is used to force people to buy products and services. The populations of fascist countries, unwittingly become like servants of the upper class. They never realize this until it is too late.  Laws like Obamacare are common in fascist systems. The general population is led to believe one thing when they are getting something else. Obamacare guarantees health insurance companies a part of every dollar spent on healthcare. The costs to patients actually go up and providers have a reduced incentive to treat patients. Laws are not enforced if the result is reduced profits of politically powerful corporations.

Free market is actually a better term than capitalism. Capitalism literally means private citizens own their own tools or capital. The terms are used interchangeably.  In a free market economy people have complete freedom over what they buy and sell. A few products and services are made illegal out of necessity and this is according to the will of the population. Hard drugs and dealing are a good example. Government plays a huge role because only government can guarantee a level playing field. In the United States today, government has failed in fulfilling its role. When government fails, the free market system morphs into a fascist system. This is what the Pope is seeing and he is unwittingly attacking the wrong system.

If the pope is successful, he will destroy any chance the poor and disadvantaged have of improving their circumstances. Why? In a free market economy, all transactions are voluntary and no group automatically has more power than the others. Honesty and trust are maximized. In all of history, there has never been a socialist system where the lives of the poor have improved. No Fascist country has ever survived. In these times, there are no true free market economies operating. Only a free market system is compatible with Christian philosophy and values.

Pope Francis is making an egregious error in attacking the free market concept.  He could be an evil man. I hope he is just ignorant.

The Pope is Not a Communist

pope-francisChristians around the world must pray that the Pope comes to understand certain issues on which he is completely clueless. When Pope Francis discusses economic issues, he suffers from the same handicap as the American public. He has no idea what he is talking about. The American people believe they live in a capitalist system and so does the Pope. Capitalism means more than working for a profit. If the Pope understood the issues on which he is speaking, surely he wouldn’t be shooting his mouth off so recklessly.

In a true Capitalist system, which the world has never known, Pope Francis would be tickled pink. What the pope is seeing would be impossible in a free market. In a true free market system exchange is voluntary. No other system makes that accommodation.

The Pope keeps seeing people suffering and assumes it is from flaws in capitalism. The Pope is actually seeing the effect of dismantling what was fairly close to being a capitalist system at one time. Much of what Americans buy today, they are compelled to buy by law. Government is expressly used by the rich to extract wealth and income out of the rest of the country. That is not capitalism. It is Fascism and there is a huge difference.

How To Get What You Want

Free-Money-Watchdog-PhotoOver the past 50,000 years people have been slaves, subjects of kings, members of tribes and as of late they had opportunities to govern themselves. Yet, when asked, what exactly does government do for people, they never give a supportable answer. Is government supposed to keep people safe? Is government supposed to solve problems for people? Is it supposed to make everyone’s life turn out even? Is government supposed to act like a parent and make everyone behave?

It doesn’t really matter how these questions are answered. Government does not do any of these things and never has. Still these and other notions are assumed to be the job of government.

So when a government is organized what does it do in actual practice? Government provides a way for people to get what they want and force other people pay for it, or bear the burden of making it possible. That is what governments do today, the same as they have always done. In the old days, everyone served a king and the king got everything his subjects did for him at a huge discount. With the advent of democratic principles all who can obtain political power, use democracy to extract income and wealth out of everyone else. In all of history, surely there is an exception but I don’t know of one.

I meet a lot of resistance trying to get folks to favor having government do nothing but administer justice. Apparently the fantasy of getting more out of life than you put into it is so strong that people can’t part with the idea even when it is clear they have always paid all of the costs and have received no benefits.

Fascism is not a system that gets named in a constitution. A parliament or congress does not declare Fascism to be the way of the future. A Fascist does not know he is a Fascist. Fascism is system that evolves after decades or centuries of people using government to get what they want. In the end, the powerful get it all and destroy the system, themselves and everyone else. Self interest generates all income and prosperity but if it is completely unchecked the effect is disastrous.

In a free market system, self interest is tempered by good will. There is a limit to how bad a merchant can treat a customer without losing out. When government decides what people own and what services they pay for goodwill is lost. As a customer, you are no longer a merchant’s friend. You are cannon fodder because profit doesn’t come from you, it comes from what the government forces you to do to support the merchant, who has more political power than you do. A fascist system gets more brutal as time goes on. Exceptions are easily made to civil rights and some minority becomes a scapegoat on which people can focus their anger.

Supporters of the Fascist system are deemed patriots. Others are accused of destroying the viability of the system. Most citizens believe they are living in a free market system, especially those who identify as conservatives.

Do not be fooled into believing experts are on the verge of solving our economic problem. Doing that is only their job. They have not the desire, knowledge or savvy to use in doing so. The experts in which American’s place their faith are using government for the same reason ordinary citizens are. They are using government as a way to get what they want.

The fantasy that the average person is going to achieve some net gain out of turning issues over to government is a 50,000 year old pipe dream, or more appropriately, a long running nightmare.00_logo_1

Pro Business Vs. Free Market

Grandmothers all across the country are busy promoting their own poverty

Grandmothers all across the country are busy promoting their own poverty.

In a free market system, Grandma works all her life and saves $100,000 for retirement. She earns 5% per year in interest or $5000.00 per year in terms of dollars. Eventually Grandma dies and leaves $1,000 to charity and $33,000 to each of her children.

In a pro business system (fascist) banks and other corporations do not need to borrow from Americans who have earned and saved money. Instead, the Federal Reserve creates an endless amount of free money to lone to businesses for less than the rate of inflation. So, Grandma receives $500 per year on her savings instead of $5000.00.

Corporations lobby Congress and get bills passed to force Grandma to pay extra for gasoline because of the ethanol requirement. Free money to businesses allows them to maintain high profit margins and that costs Grannie also.

In a fascist system, government is not merely used to cheat ordinary Americans. In this system money goes to the top just like cream. When the public is completely squeezed out by using government, businesses start cheating one another. When that source dries up a war is often started to temporarily stimulate demand. Anyone who thinks the industrialists in Germany had no influence over Hitler, has not studied history. The industrialists were just as culpable as the bad man himself. Most German corporations survived WWII as did Japanese corporations.

Oddly, Americans don’t mind being cheated. This is fine except, the entire country is being destroyed along with the wellbeing of grandparents, children and grandchildren.
